i've heard horror stories of scruffing elderly cats by the neck and picking them up where the skin will literally tear off their body giving cats vaccines or any injection i find it very helpful to scruff them, place them on their side so that whoever is giving the injection has easier access to the vein on the inside of their leg .. this is not picking them up but making them immobile and easier to handle for their injection so they don't hurt themselves one of the vets at my practice does not believe in scruffing, but she has been bit and scratched more times than she can count, so i think i will stick to scruffing not to pick them up but to make them immobile !

Jason I vaccinate cats all day without ever scuffing them. If the cat is aggressive, and I'm talking about LUNGE AT YOUR FACE AGGRESSIVE I'll get an assistant with a towel to help me. Sounds like the vets at your practice just need to work on their cat handling skills. Maybe if they stopped scruffing the cats, the cats wouldn't need scruffing because they are no longer terrified of coming to the vet. Sounds like your vets need a bit of extra training, sadly it can be hard to acquire in general practice. Maybe go to a feline conference, or your local cat specialists and spend a few afternoons with them?
Understanding the world from a cat's perspective and making vet care comfortable on their terms is why feline only clinics, who often get cats who are "fired" from other clinic for being unmanageable, still manage to do their job (at least in my experience).

Jason Dafonte
i started working part time at a feline only clinic last december, the vet at the feline only clinic had to go to the emergency over a very infected bite while i was there. she also does not scruff the cats for fear of traumatizing them we have very feral cats come in traps, the only way of touching them is with a towel and a lot of the time they need to be drugged with gabapentin or something like that i work part time at another clinic that is of all animals, it is true the cats there are much more manageable and do not need to be scruffed there will be a vet conference this november in nyc, i hope i get selected to go ! thanx for the videos, they're good !

Helpful Vancouver Vet
Thank you for sharing your story Jason. A lot of people do not realize that vet work is actually quite dangerous and all of us do get injured quite badly on occasion! I'm lucky to have relatively few scars, so far... Feral cats are a challenge as they are more like wild animals than pets, and handling them can require a lot of restraint or sedation. Scuffing, however, is not effective restraint. As I mention in the video do that with a really difficult cat and you'll end up in the hospital 7 times out of 10. I'm all for using sedation though! It makes the cat less stressed and it is safer for us hoomans.

went to the track today to do some running and when i got there i notice there's a long haired young woman running already, her friend was sitting inside the track, both vixen looking

i took my time getting ready lacing up my shoes and running half a lap to get warmed up, well they're both sitting there until i finish running

i don't know if i was being rude or just saving my energy, but when i ran past them all three times i didn't look at them

i glanced once or twice 50 yards away but i don't know what their faces look like, i know they were looking at me

i thought i might've heard one of them say " look at us " when i passed by the third time

So you don't meditate at all anymore? Or just once in awhile? Have you noticed any differences from not doing it?

it's interesting how you can make a routine of doing something incorrectly until you look at it again

when i spend so much time on health stuff of course i'm gonna speak about it ! it gets people upset cuz they hardly even put an iota of time into their own health

something about men shopping alone in grocery stores ?

my experience :

i went to the grocery store today and outside of work it's where i see the most people on a weekly basis

anyway i'm just looking around at produce and the grocery store usually has a higher proportion of women

there's this youngish one a bit taller than me with darker brown hair wearing yoga pants and she's clearly the best looking woman in the store at the moment, we make eye contact for a second but i'm just trying to buy food and get out of there

so i'm looking at some blueberries and there's a bit of a jam with the shopping carts and people where i'm trying to get around and she's trying to get around so i just stood there waiting for her to make a move

she goes around the stack of food and gets so close to me i can feel the heat of her body, she had more room to not get so close

yeah that happens every once in a while, a woman gets so close you can feel the heat coming off of them
