what i have to say to sepehr is way to go fuckwit !

well, my ex-girlfriend is pretty much out of my life and so that means i'm pretty much done with women in any sort of sexual way !

"Solitude, after all, is both fertile and fecund—a dark, deep, and mossy recess studded with gems. Your self is boring and inane only when you’re too busy, too hurried, or too harried to explore it properly. Given the time and opportunity to become acquainted with your own inner self, you’ll find an infinite font of secret wisdom there."

i had a lot of salt today from soy sauce, my heartbeat is faster than usual

andrew:
  1. wang wei, li po tu fu all affected by the an lushan rebellion !

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Lushan_Rebellion

it really helps to read up on the lives of these great writers and poets, it explodes the hagiographic bullshit that religious morons push when you see the problematic lives of real people with an understanding of infinity !

me:
bloody times

sort of interesting that those three were from the same time period, and with tu fu and li po being close, sort of

yeah jesus first of all probably didn't exist, and if he did he wouldn't have lived for very long because he would have been assassinated, or executed, so it's sort of ridiculous to think that poets/saints lived carefree lives

even li po, tu fu, and even you worked for a large portion of your lives, li po and tu fu maybe not enjoying the spoils as much, considering their life span

was watching barry lyndon when my friend called and told me he was outside with his dog (a staffordshire bull terrier), i figured i needed a break from the movie and decided i'd go walk around the block with the dog and him

he's walking the dog without a leash and eventually the dog sees a cat, the cat is pretty far away and walks away when it sees the dog, thought nothing would come of it, when we got near the backyard where the cat walked to the dog went wild and chased the cat into the bushes, i didn't see what happened but heard screams from the cat

the dog ran back with blood on it's snout, cat seemed to run away but with definite injuries

my friend later said he doesn't learn, i told him it's not that he doesn't learn he doesn't even start

i saw a rottweiller being walked without a leash once by the elementary school, it saw a squirrel and bolted similarly to the dog today

i don't know how to take good advice when it's given to me

i'm sort of excited to watch this, documentary of a ch'an monastery in China made by the director of "Amongst White Clouds"

xanax definitely works, and it definitely has side effects !

just because i study zen doesn't mean i'm better than everyone else

tassajara-

one time i decided to climb one of the hills in tassajara where they had their solar panels, you had to walk up past the highest cabins for a good five minutes or more until you reached the top
it was a good hike and some guy gave me a book written by adyashanti and told me to read a certain chapter, i read it near the top but it was pretty bologna
anyway at the top i walked around for a bit and eventually i came to this platform that was sort of hanging off the edge and on the platform was two of their military mattresses with two pillows and a blanket all messed up
at first i thought it was a good spot to watch the stars and i was thinking of going up there myself at night, but then i realized how many people were fucking up there and i got sick, it was one of the moments i realized that tassajara was full of shit
the other moment i realized tassajara wasn't what i was projecting it to be was the first time i got there and the woman leslie greeted us with a fake smile

going to the park by myself, that's better than any church service !

my friends commented how in shape i was playing soccer the other night, i hardly noticed how much i was running, these vitamins and this diet isn't for nothing !

growing up i didn't have much to read, my parents were illiterate and from a different country, but my love for reading was very strong, the books i did have i would read at night until i would sometimes fall asleep with the book still open in my hands losing the page
this sort of reading i'm doing now i've been waiting for a long time, i'm in love with reading
writing still eludes me, i've just started and shouldn't be so ambitious

i'm in my zone when i'm alone

what i'm learning from friends is that they eat dumb shit, do dumb shit, and then repeat the cycle
what i learned from going to parties is the moments i remember most is when i would give myself a moment to go outside with no one else

i've been spending most of my free time in my room, only leaving for food in the kitchen

doesn't matter how intelligent you might be, the mind needs to be stretched and not by jerking yourself off with your monotonous thoughts, but by reading others and having experience

my father's side has ulcers and alzheimers, my mother's side cancers and migraines, i'm fucked

half a ghost, you're there but i don't really see you

my other friend has been using heroin for at least a year now, probably longer, he matches the bill looks just like a heroin user

my friend was talking about how he experienced anxiety one time, i thought 'one time ?! ' jesus it's daily at this point, maybe hourly

life's always been shit, i'm just used to it at this point

it'll get worse though, and then i'll die

sepehr and zakaj are a mix of moron and intellectual, spouting bullshit constantly with little review of what they're saying
they don't listen, just talk talk talk way too much
since i got to the 7thzenpatriarch blog i didn't like either of them, i guess because they don't review their lives, how much time can you have when you're married ?
zakaj has a guru, what a lame ass, he can't even see the guy is a fake

i mean the two are better than the average, but when you wish for "normative ethics" how much better than the normal can you be ? sepehr doesn't care about enlightenment, what the fuck is he doing then

andrew moderating his blog, i don't know what to think about that since in the past he's criticized people for doing just that
i can understand it being tough for him, especially zakaj and sepehr writing essays on nothing too important
yeah so they don't think he's authentic, so really they're just messing with his time

f u c k i n g  m o r o n s the two of them

** because this blog is fun, and your writings are fun and interesting **  is zakaj's comment

pretty much shows that zakaj is messing around
i wouldn't say i have fun on the 7th zen patriarch blog
i have been laughing recently with all of this

anxiety is going down thanks to lithium carbonate

some people like to consume so much alcohol they forget the whole night, or accomplish the same thing by combining alcohol and prescription meds like xanax, my question is 'what is the point ?'
every time i ask no one seems to have an answer

when i was younger playing xbox this older guy was saying he needed to take a smoke break so bad, i asked why, he said it was to relieve stress, we asked if his source of stress was needing to take smoke break, he just got angry at the question

i want to write too, but i feel that i can only write retarded stuff about myself, i want to write about others too

i had some bread stuff yesterday, i feel like my thinking is slower

andrew yells to the universe

i will never die, others may but i never will !

"Why should Infinity matter to me if there is no greater fruit to it?"
what does this say about sepehr ?

lately i've been inviting people to post on the 7thzenpatriarch blog, and so far no one has posted ! i don't know what they're so scared about, but it's the same thing for andrew, he invites people to post and they just don't

"sepehr, you are talking theories of philosophy, i am talking actual physics

interestingly a corollary of david deutsche's open and closed/unread messages on time like curves changing history is that open messages in the present also change the future, which we know to be true from our experience

however you can take the view that the future is somewhat fixed in a similar nature to the past which implies that if the world is too open to messages in the present that life and our world as we know it would become extraordinarily unstable . .

historically the open message that religion is bullshit had as a direct consequence the murderous soviet and chinese communist regimes since religion has always acted as a socializing break on the usual human genocidal tendencies, the message was too powerful and actually distorted since usually religion does carry at its heart some sense . .

so the fact that you don't seem to take a word of what i write in my
"open messages" is part of the the boundary condition of a sort of "metaphysics" maintaining the stability of the world

so of necessity people cannot really take on board what i say and in fact what i say being taken on board must leak out of the future in a limited way, similar to how i take on board the great the minds and writings of the past . .

there are physics of reality that do not permit people to understand the mysticism i talk about !

i have no experience with pea protein isolate, could be ok or mightn't be, if you use for a while let us know how it turns out !"

i'm starting to get interested in programming, a lady on reddit let me know that Elixir/Phoenix is really blowing up
Andrew recommended a blog post from the creator of the Phoenix language, i ended up finding a phoenix chat where the writer was online
me: hey, can i learn to code with elixir/phoenix as a completely new programmer ?
chris: Jason____ yes
me: hey chris i just read one of your articles on little lines !
could you expand on how i should go about learning phoenix ? really i'm completely new to this game
chris: their will be less content for absolute beginners, but lots of things suggest a functional language is easier to learn for someone completely new to programming
You'll want to start small into Elixir first,  and get your feet wet their. I would start with the getting started guides at elixir-lang.org http://elixir-lang.org/getting-started/introduction.html
I gave a workshop geared to ruby folks, but it might also be a gentle intro for youhttp://www.chrismccord.com/blog/2014/05/27/all-aboard-the-elixir-express/
from there pragprog's Programming Elixir is a good start. Once things start to click for you, then I would head over to phoenixframework.org and start the guides there
it will take some tinkering/playing/frustration to internalize a lot of things, so hang in there :)
me: thanx dude :o)

i can't stand anyone being better than me

i feel like there are a lot of posers in this world, it really gets me confused

my last boss was in a rage one day, i walked in a bit late and he screamed "you are an actor and a pretender !"
it bothered me for a while, because i thought he might've been right, recently i figured that the pretender was really him !
quit the same day

dad doesn't want to have christmas at our house, he says he doesn't feel comfortable. if it's not here though, the family won't be together for christmas, and i don't have anywhere to go. i really worry he might have symptoms of alzheimer's, it runs in the family

americans can list off actors/actresses, facts about them and go on and on
but they can't say anything meaningful about themselves !

saw a picture on facebook of my ex with some guy, she doesn't seem to be so into him, but even after 3 years i felt a hint of jealousy
i'm very prone to jealousy, at least i was

i do want to live in the country, and being in real estate could afford me that, but will i make enough money ? will i struggle too much, work until very old age ?
i could do programming, it would be a lot of work, but at least i'd be making decent money
maybe i could program for a couple years, get some sort of base, then try out real estate

what's the difference between being alone and solitude ?
what's the difference of being alone and solitude ?
what's the difference between solitude and being alone ?
i asked andrew, he didn't answer
for me to figure out ?
andrew: neither of them are words i use, i might say "i live by myself", but 'solitude' or 'being alone' are not things i feel !

i liked the poem i wrote "standing on a thousand foot cliff", it came to me seemingly out of no where, i did have some harsh words said to me by my father. difficulty builds a person ?

never really thought myself seriously suicidal, but the amount of times i've imagined deadly things happening to myself contradicts that

definitely attracted to damaged women more than the average, always been physically pulled to them
in my teens i played social online games, i would chat with these girls who had lots of problems, i never really saw the problems as too serious, these girls always interested me
i've lost contact to most of them, the ones i liked most
even when everyone says a woman is gorgeous, i'm not interested if she's not got soul

copying andrew's style too much, i'll be happier when my own really starts to show
for now i'm happy that i have the literary genius of andrew to guide me

my further comment : his fellow monks are just reciting scripture

one time when i was younger i hopped on the piano and played keys to my liking, it was nice sounding and i had a vision of of dolphins jumping in and out of water

I don't remember if Brad Warner was working while at Tassajara

If he wasn't I can understand why he goes back, very beautiful there, big mountains with walking trails along the sides of them

I was looking at "Zen In America" interviews and saw one with Greg Fain, best part of the video was when they stopped shooting him and started showing views in Tassajara

my favorite times while staying there was when i'd have enough time to walk alongside the mountains

time was short because i was doing the work- practice exchange, they'd really put you to work !

sort of upsetting that these retreat centers have nothing for me

had some steak tonight and felt my brain working better than normal, what will it be like when i have brain to eat?

it hasn't been a year since i started following andrew's advice and i have had crazy improvement, if i didn't get his shikantaza advice i would still be a grunt zenner, trying to stop my thoughts with will !
Danxia Zichun "... forgetting instantly everything you remembered in the past ..." I understand where this "stopping thoughts" idea comes from, but it can not be forced, it's spontaneous

"... you cannot prepare by studying sutras and teachings or by reciting from your zen notes.  nor can you prepare through artifical cleverness ..."
but ewk told me i could understand by studying, lol! nope, and artificial cleverness, the buji way ?

these sort of experiences can't be forced, but i can prepare myself with meditation. charles bukowski spoke about not leaving his room for 6 days, staying in bed for 6 hours straight

isaac newton never married or had children

the portuguese and spanish call me "mudo" (mute), i just don't like talking very much, what gets them so upset about that ?

Roll The Dice
                 Charles Bukowski

if you’re going to try, go all the
way.
otherwise, don’t even start.

if you’re going to try, go all the
way.
this could mean losing girlfriends,
wives, relatives, jobs and
maybe your mind.

go all the way.
it could mean not eating for 3 or 4 days.
it could mean freezing on a
park bench.
it could mean jail,
it could mean derision,
mockery,
isolation.
isolation is the gift,
all the others are a test of your
endurance, of
how much you really want to
do it.
and you’ll do it
despite rejection and the worst odds
and it will be better than
anything else
you can imagine.

if you’re going to try,
go all the way.
there is no other feeling like
that.
you will be alone with the gods
and the nights will flame with
fire.

do it, do it, do it.
do it.

all the way
all the way.

you will ride life straight to
perfect laughter, its
the only good fight
there is.

i was about 13, and my mother was planning for me to go to church later that sunday which i despised
i called her on her cell phone and told her i did not want to go because i did not believe in jesus, her reaction was something like "WHAT?!"
i said i do not believe in god, or jesus, i do not think they are real
she started crying, screaming that i will be going to church later
i kept on saying jesus and god weren't real and they never existed
later i never saw my brother so angry, he yelled louder than ever about how could i say that to her
it was true though, i never thought jesus was a real person, or god
she didn't speak to me for a couple days, i didn't go to church though, never again

clay colored kitchen

they're talking about a vacuum
and i can't stop staring
at the sun setting
filling the room
with a golden sunlight

this was in portugal when i was young, they were talking about how the vacuum was broken and they needed to use the warranty to get someone there to fix it. i was a bit upset because i didn't want anyone else to be there, so young my dislike of people manifested
what was special about that moment was how the sunlight was shining in

i have these certain memories from my life that are vivid, somewhere in my teens i said to myself "i'm going to forget most of these things" and i did because my memory was failing, thanks to andrew and his health info these memories are coming back

flickr album 11/6/2015
will i ever take as nice of photos as rob?

when i first watched these two videos months ago, i was bewildered
lars von trier interview
andrew's black stream poem

what caused my confusion? and why is it that now i watch these videos and i see two men so human, much more than i?
is it that i have a background? and a background in meditation? i think so
what's incredible is the density with andrew levin, lars von trier, virginia woolf, charles bukowski
it seems almost endless, i keep looking and reading these people and it's never ending, there is so much to them. they aren't the normality that can be read so easily, there's decades of work with all of these people

where will i be in 10 years? 20 years? 30 years?

i say: I didn't know what silent illumination was really

andrew replies: the real shikantaza churns yourself, for just about everybody this state/condition is to be strenuously avoided so they create third party systems like "silent illumination" and "koan study" to proxy their time so they themselves are never subjected to the trauma of C H A N G E

these two poems of andrew levin are the ones that have stayed in my memory

                                                                 "a starlit night

no moon

across the paddock

the sound of cattle

working the fences"

"the sun
sparkling on the sea
has no room for men labouring on it's shores
hush
and listen to the clear stream
flowing over mossy banks"

Dogen vision

Dogen receiving transmission from Damei Fachang

I guess I have had  a vision recently, it was at tassajara and one night during meditation a great big tree sprouted out from my mind, it being golden and with a magical quality to it. I was questioning what was going to come with zen practice and I suppose the vision answered with this great golden elm-looking tree. What's funny is that my current google plus picture accurately shows what I saw/felt during the vision, I wasn't trying to take a picture with that tree behind me but it happened that way and I only noticed the other week

"I can only note the past is beautiful because one never realizes an emotion at the time. It expands later, and thus we don't have complete emotions about the present, only about the past. " - Virginia Woolf

I've been thinking about this a lot recently.. The past seems so alive and certain emotions were so strong, but when I try to feel this emotion in the present it's not as strong. I wonder what I'll feel in the future looking back at these times

Just finished Virginia Woolf's book "To the Lighthouse", some lines and paragraphs just made me fly. Beautiful, beautiful writing, I think the best I've read till now. I'm thinking I'll read "Confederacy Of The Dunces" next?

One of the best things about the book is how I'll return to it in a couple years and it will take on a completely new meaning

Andrew decided to say nice things about my vision of the mind tree, really i don't seem to care much for the praise. When he complimented my shikantaza is when I did a bit of a dance

Computer should be fixed soon, replacing the SATA cable and hopefully the thing will start working so I can start writing

The Hermit in Mass

friday morning i left my house, leaving my shit home behind knowing i was about to go somewhere very pretty in rural mass. when i arrived i was a bit early as i was told to arrive by evening and it was about 4. i suppose i was worrying too much, but i stopped in at the town dunkin donuts and took a nasty crap. i had way too much ribs that morning and i swear i thought i saw a worm in my food, out it came anyway!

i spent the next hour in my car writhing around with my stomach hurting, trying not to look at my phone and paying some attention to the rain hitting my windshield. about an hour later as the rain was dying down i noticed steam rolling off of the hood of the car, the thing has been making some funky noises lately and i wondered if it should still be hot after that long? an hour meant my rain watching was over and it was now evening and time to face some of my fears, what i once thought was a reddit zen monster, zuchinnipants/chopwater/somethingelsewhoknowswhat?

arriving at daves i parked my car to the side of his narrow driveway and stared up to a tiny house on a hill tucked away behind some trees. i saw his black pickup that he had not too long ago posted a picture of and called "black buddha". i was a bit scared walking up, but i had a smile on the whole time

he heard me walking alongside his house and opened the door.. a second of silence that felt longer and then "hello!" reaching out our hands for a handshake. i was let inside and probably thought that this has been the way with zen for centuries, two zen practitioners meeting somewhere in the woods!

his house had a strange sort of minty smell, and a bell that let people in sort of like a small town shop. there was a lot of random shit and he told me it was his girlfriend who decorated some of it. for the next hour or so we talked about reddit zen, zen centers, the 7thzenpatriarchblog, ewk, and andrew. it was sort of uplifting to finally be able to talk to someone about andrew, someone who understood him a bit more than most people

dave said he would show me down the hill to where i was staying in a small structure called the "oval", it was actually cozy even though the insulation wasn't completely put in, and was pretty well made, nice job dave! i asked him what time it was and i thought i heard him say it was 10:15, i must've heard wrong because it was really something like 7. i sat around with my red headlamp, finally noticed the time, laughed, and was soon asleep. i must've slept 9 or 10 hours, probably something to do with the lack of cars, trains, planes, and general stupidity that i'm used to on long island

6 am dave was knocking two wooden sticks together to wake me up, meditation time! but first some tea, god damn hot, burned my tongue! down the property some more to a small meditation shack something i hadn't seen in the quiet darkness of the night before. half hour sitting, 15 mins walking, half hour sitting

later in the morning we decided to walk to one of the retreat centers down the road from dave, he had three established centers around him! we went to the most buddhist center of the area to meet a man Mu Soeng. unfortunately he wasn't there when we got there, dave left his number or email with a pretty girl, nice too, so that mu soeng might contact him when he saw it. we decided to walk to the other centers, one called the Insight Meditation Center where dave said a bunch of pacifists lived, lol! three months people retreated there and the rules were to not talk, read, or write! what bologna. dave said they walked around like zombies and it sort of seemed that way. he also met a friend there, i thought how lucky he was to be surrounded by nice people, people on long island can suck it! we visited the other center too but they had a retreat going on and we walked away before disturbing anyone

we went home, made some 'hippie slop' (stir fried vegetables put in a bowl), and rested for a while from what i can remember. meditated some more later

next morning i was expecting dave but he came around at 8 or 9 or so and told me he was under the weather, oh well! he wanted to go to the diner and i thought sure. i ordered the farmers market omelette, subpar piece of crap.. undercooked peppers spinach and some cheddar cheese. of course it came with home fries, can't say i didn't have a couple bites. dave ordered the french toast and tea, poured some syrup on his toast.

during breakfast we got a call from a farm dave had been working at, but they hadn't called him in months he told me. they were having a harvest festival and needed extra workers, dave said he was with a friend and so the guy on the line said i could come too and i could work 'security' at the hay maze.. i thought 'oh boy..' this guy is probably a douchebag like the rest of them!

when we got there my predictions were true, bunch of townies in camo clothing, some dumbass girls running around. i exchanged some nasty glares with the townies and some nicer ones with the girls. dave got an exceptionally long stare from one of the girls! we were told to collect some firewood with one of the nicer invisble-camo-guys until things started picking up for the festival. then i was told i would be working the main attraction, the pumpkin catapult, i was furious, like shit i wanted to work the main fucking attraction! i wanted to work some god damn hay maze security! that's what i was told! you know there's no arguing with idiots though

we dropped off dave at the hay maze where he'd be collecting money all day and i was dropped off at the main part of the farm as we still had some time to dick around before the festivities. the farm workers were hanging around the apple cider press but there was no way i was hanging out with them. the sun was picking up so i decided to walk over to my car and drop off my sweater, and while i was doing that i ran over to dave just to hang out some more, i was a bit upset i wouldn't be hanging with him for 6 hours or so

i told him i'd be fired if i kept hanging around and ran to the catapult, i was pleased to see security tape lining some distance between us and the catapult watchers. for the next 6 hours i was in charge of the trigger and hammer, launching these pumpkins some 200 feet into the air, entertaining the idiots as they went "ooh, ahh" "HAHAHHAHAHHA" "did you see how far that went?!" jesus fucking christ. by the end dave and i were told we'd be paid 15 bucks an hour and i thought well at least there's some sort of redemption. we grabbed a chocolate milkshake each on the way out and drove back to dave's tiny home

when we got back i told dave i'd like to walk some more, i had fun the day before, and that evening we walked the other direction of the road where most of the land was owned by a private land conservation company. dave had two neighbors, one living old guy to his left, and to his right a nonliving private entity who preserved nature. i thought it was a pretty sweet deal that dave lived next to a nature preserve

when we got back dave went to his house and i decided to take a crap in the outhouse, i was a bit scared when i saw i'd be shitting in a bucket, but it ended up being a high-class bucket with a toilet seat and everything. i took a decent crap, sprinkled some wood chips on it, and decided to walk some more in another direction of daves house. it was getting dark but i walked as far as the trail went and ended up at a nice rock that seemed nice to sit on. i imagined the old zen masters that spent time in the woods sitting on rocks, what made the present so different? well i'm not a zen master, but i did sit on the rock for a bit before i thought it was getting quite dark and i ought to get back!

when i got back dave and i had already decided that we'd go out to eat around 7. when i met him we decided on some place in who knows where, i just told him i wanted some eggplant parmigiana (to please that veggie loving freakazoid). we took a nice drive over there, no radio, talking about his past relationships, about his 20s where he went, how he lived and all of that. there were a bunch of very interesting stories that i'm glad he shared with me.

when we got to the place it was pretty busy and we sat next to the bar. there were a couple of obnoxious drunks, but i ignored them as best as i could. it wasn't too difficult because dave kept telling interesting stories. when we met our waitress dave commented on the fact that she looked tired and she agreed, when she walked away dave said that it seemed like she didn't like him, the rest of the dinner proved him right because she was awfully hushed to us

the food was decent besides all the bread stuffs, and dave and i shared many interesting conversations! i was having a blast really, it was a good time. we drove back home and even though i was tired i wanted to keep talking and so we went into dave's house and talked some more.. this time more in depth of the denizens of r/zen and 7thzenpatriarchblog. dave read aloud to me a talk by george bowman, he told it quite well and i was enjoying the story. we talked some about george and then dave told me he was tired and so was i

next morning we woke up early for meditation,  2 30 minute sits split up by some walking. after we shared some 'egg slop', self explanatory, some tea, and some more conversation. i helped clean up a bit, made my bed, set aside some money for dave to thank him for hosting me. i shut the door to the oval and walked up with dave to his house, put my plastic bag of supplements down and exchanged a hug with dave. i felt like crying a bit but i also knew that i'd be back some day to share the woods with this crazy hermit

thanks for the good times dave
